Annual Report of the Sata Foundation for the Year 2024 I. Support for Other Foundations
(1) Aid for Rohingya Refugees In 2022, the Sata Foundation made a donation to Partners NGO, Rohingya Refugees, Ada (USA) https://www.partners.ngo/our-work/rohingya-refugee-crisis) to help relieve the sufferings of the ethnic and religious group of persons called the “Rohingya”, normally residing in Myanmar who have escaped persecution and human rights abuses by the military regime in Myanmar. There is a case about the genocide of the Rohingya pending in the International Court of Justice, or the World Court in The Hague, brought by The Gambia and several other countries against Myanmar. Not many NGOs or governments are funding humanitarian efforts to lessen their sufferings and this is where our donation can be meaningful. Therefore, in 2024 the Sata Foundation made another donation to Partners NGO, Rohingya Refugees, Ada (USA) to provide shelters and medical care to the stateless Rohingya refugees, whose situations have been worsened by the ongoing civil war in Myanmar. (2) Donation to Alleviate the Health Crisis in the Democratic Republic of the Congo The Sata Foundation made a donation to Medair to elevate the ongoing health crisis in DR Congo (https://www.medair.org/campaign/emergency-in-the-democratic-republic-of-congo). At first, the donation was intended to be in response to the Mpox outbreak in DR Congo, which had been declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern by the World Health Organization and in response to the cholera outbreak in that country. Since DR Congo had started to receive Mpox vaccine from UNICEF and the World Health Organization, the Sata Foundation’s donation was to be used to deal with the health crisis in general in DR Congo, which is among the worst in the entire world. II. The Madonna of Nagasaki and World Peace
Run for Peace Rally 2024
Since 2005, the Sata Foundation has sponsored the “Run for Peace” Cycling Rally in France to commemorate the anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki (on 6 and 9 August 1945, respectively) and to promote public awareness of the human sufferings caused by the use of nuclear weapons as well as the need to ensure that scientific knowledge is used for human health and well-being, and not as weapons of destruction. III. Upholding World Peace
With a view to enhancing the “understanding among peoples of all cultures, religions and beliefs of the value of peace and respect for universally recognized human rights”, which is part of the Sata Foundation's Mission Statement, the annual Sata Foundation Oxford International Court of Justice (ICJ) Fellowship Award of £3,000 (equal to CHF 3,489) has been set up since March 2023 to support the living expenses in The Hague, Netherlands, of the candidate from Oxford chosen by the International Court of Justice to be interned there for one year.
